For something you have created is it preferable to have:

a - Mass appeal, loved by different people from various backgrounds, areas, generations etc but derided because of this and referred to in the same bracket as the god awful phrase 'music for people who don't like music'. Or Micheal McIntyre.

or

b - niche appeal, a loyal cult following confined to a very limited demographic and not well known outside of this audience.
