Millport Marine Biology Station
Basically the Marine Biology Station in Millport is under threat of closure this year because London University is pulling out, unless someone else steps in. I'm sure many of you will probably know someone who has used the station before because students from all over Scotland, the UK and Europe come to use the facilities at the station.
The economy of Millport (a lovely wee island off the west coast of Scotland) stands to suffer massively from this and quite a few people who have lived on the island and worked at the station for 20+ years stand to lose their jobs and thousands of students stand to lose an amazing research facility.
Apparently there is going to be a Scottish government meeting about what they can do on Thursday and there is currently a petition going to get 10,000 signatures before then. The petition currently has about 7,000 signatures so it would be really fantastic if you could sign it. With only 3,000 more needed every signature is vital. Also if you want to go one step further you could write to your Westminister MP and ask them to sign the early day motion in relation to this.
If you don't know much about this issue there is a link to plenty of articles on the petion, cheers.
