Masterchef
This week's lot are pretty good eh?
Last night they had to break open a sea urchin, extract the orange 'flesh' and make a side salad. No one had ever seen one before. Gotta love Monica pretending everyone knows what one is and how you get into it. It literally looked like an alien arsehole.
Then Michel Roux Jr made them all make a classic dish for a change (I wonder if he ever whips up a stir fry?). It seemed to take him about 3 hours to do it so they all did well to get anything on a plate.
Oli, 22, is the standout guy from this week's pack. Fucked up the sea urchin test less than 75% of the others, followed Roux's recipe almost perfectly then made Roux's favourite dish ever Sole Veronique (sp) with unexpectedly good consequences. That kids' star is rising. Loved that he was doing Masterchef for 'something to do on his days off' and had to leave straight after the taste test to be on service.
The guy who went had to really. Gritty seafood, undercooked scones, underwhelming jelly and never handled an artichoke before, which may be my new favourite euphemism.
Tonight some more good people join in. Ooh-er.
