Pop rapper Chris Brown has been seen with a new tattoo that strongly resembles a battered woman. The tattoo, on the left side of his neck, was first seen at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas on September 1st. The tattoo has drawn comparison to pop star Rihanna, as Brown pled guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend pop star Rihanna in 2009. Brown’s representative told celebrity gossip website Rumourfix that the tattoo is of a sugar skull from Mexican festival Day Of The Dead mixed with a MAC makeup design the rapper saw.
In response to the allegations that the tattoo is of the beaten Rihanna, Chris Brown told fans on his official Twitter account: ‘I’m an artist and this is art. Dia de los Muertos’ In his tweet, Brown was referring to imagery from the Mexican festival Day of the Dead. This tweet from Brown links to what his representative told Rumourfix that ‘his tattoo is a sugar skull and a MAC cosmetics design he saw’. However, pop star Rihanna has yet to tweet her opinion on the tattoo, or make any comment to other journalists about the subject.
People were shocked and outraged at the tattoo due to Chris Brown pleading guilty to physically assaulting Rihanna in 2009. Police had been called to a vehicle parked in Los Angeles Hancock Park neighbourhood where they found the victim with visible facial injuries and bite marks on her arms. The victim, who wasn’t allowed to be identified due to police department policy, had identified Chris Brown as the attacker. The assault was believed to have happened after the couple ‘became involved in an argument which escalated after they got out of the car’, a police statement reported shortly after the attack. Brown was released from jail on a $50,000 bail.
