Possible explanations for socks going missing

dan_thw [Edit] [Delete] 14:59, 5 January '11

At the beginning of last year I bought two 7-packs of budget white socks from Primark.

Today I have 4 pairs left.

I can't understand where they could have gone. I do my own washing. I don't mix my washing with anyone elses. I have a tidyish room which I totally turned upside down a couple of months back and I just checked the end of my bed so there aren't any rogue socks hiding. Apart from one pair that got totally wrecked in a rain and mud related incident, I haven't knowingly thrown any out.

How is it possible to have lost 18 socks in a year? How? I can only assume this is some sort of witchcraft.

Though feel free to list possible suggestions below...
