Skeletons
Anyone else seen this yet? I thought that it was terrific.
What starts off as an odd-couple fantasy comedy tinged with dark moments - faintly reminiscent of Vic & Bob’s ‘Catterick’ - reveals itself to be a perfectly formed adventure that has more emotional truth than any of the Charlie Kaufmann films that seem to have influenced it. There’s a refreshing feel to the ambiguous way that the story unfolds and the way that the audience are credited with enough intelligence to fill in the gaps, resulting in a story that is shown to us, rather than told. Even the initially comical cameo role of ‘The Colonel’ is shown to be a fully-formed character of real depth.
I’d go as far as to say that it’s my favourite film of the year so far.
If you can find a cinema in which it’s being shown, please go.
Also, despite the hilariously boho name, Tuppence Middleton looks like one to watch for the future (i.e. she’s very pretty, vaguely indie and displays some hilarious flashes of expression).
