Can Anyone Confirm For Me The Legend of the Ottoman Slap?
Now I remember reading once that Ottoman soldiers in the service of the British forces during the Crimean war (or maybe it was some other war entirely) used to have a special combat technique which I will now describe.
In previous conflicts with more technologically advanced states, Ottoman troops would routinely be supplied with arms that were so sub-standard and prone to malfunctioning as to be completely useless in the field. To combat this, soldiers in training would practise a hand to hand technique that involved a one-shot attack so potent that it was said an expert exponent could reduce solid rock to dust in just three strikes.
And so it was that when allied with the British in the Crimea, the poorly equipped Ottomans would routinely drop their guns in front of a bemused enemy force and use that moment of confusion to slap to death whoever was in front of them.
All Googling has turned up one particularly hilarious video on Youtube and thousands of pages of Turks haranguing Armenians and Germans in Turkish about shit knows what.
Anyone heard of this?
