why have arms been lowered over the years when celebrating a goal in football?

michael_w [Edit] [Delete] 00:27, 13 November '08

for years it was all arms aloft and leaping around....then, i think around the mid/late ninetees or so....post goal, arms started pointing down towards the ground, wrists offered to the masses.

why the change. do you just look harder if you pump them to the ground?

i would personally like celebrating to get back to its ebullient, effervescent best, with arms punching the sky, not scraping the floor.

i think shearer was the last arm high player to go, and even he only had the guts to use one arm fo fear of being labelled a jessie.

other important football theory:
i think there is a deep psychological hatred of goalkeepers from those that enjoy the game. for we are truely the stoppers of goals, with goals being the most exciting part, and ultimatly, the entire point, of the game. therefore, us keepers will always be chastised more for our mistakes, and not praised half as much for our heroics because its all about goals goals goals.
