Hello.

I am supposed to be paying a french gentleman a deposit soon, in the form of a cheque. He has (understandably) quoted the amount I have to pay in euros.

Now, I can't send him an english cheque with the pound sign scribbled out and replaced by a Euro, can I? Alternatively, if I send him a cheque in pounds instead of euros, would he be able to cash it in his French bank?

I've got a nagging feeling I'm making this way more complicated than it needs to be.
