Nero has decided it doesn't want to play ball with either of my two cd/dvd drives, yet they still work fine, what other free (or readily available) software can I use?

Basically I want something that can:
create a comp from a m3u playlist
lets you edit the mp3s start/finish time to cut out dead air

suggestions?
