'there are more opportunities to go further in education in America'

sarkyfox [Edit] [Delete] 13:04, 27 October '08

this morning on my way to work i heard an american having a semi-heated discussion with an english boy about american/uk education.

She was basically going on and on about how DISGUSTING the class system is in the UK and how if you're 'poor' you have less opportunities to educate yourself (as in higher education) than in the US.

She started going on about how even though many schools in the US aren't fee paying they're still good (the english guy said 'well it's the same here', she ignored him), then said how if you wanted to go to university there are scholarships (english guy 'well it's kind of the same here with student loa..' she interrupted)

she was just going onnn and onnnnnnn and i wanted to turn around and be like 'well, if you WANT to go to university here, you CAN, you can take out a student loan and do it. anyone can. and while you do pay fees, they're not the astronomical fees like in the US. JESUS. and to be honest i think you're fooling yourself if you don't think there's any kind of class system in the US, now go AWAY'

anyway, discuss please.
