I'm currently weighing up buying a new guitar as my current Les Paul copy is truly awful and has meant I've played very little over the past 18 months.

Top of my list is a Fender Telecaster (one of the modern mexican-made ones is all I can afford) but will it be suited for playing 'heavy' music with? Not like Slayer or Cannibal Corpse, but just able to make enough noise and depth to maybe deafen someone a bit?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated :)
