*KILL MEAT CLUB, the trials and tribulations of..*
My friends,
I have joyous news of great musical things ahappening upon the ralphcore horizon! And, in an effort to not sound like a promoter-douche-type-person: heres a docu-thread about the ups and downs of me putting on my first club night, of which, id like everyone here to come and enjoy with me*no hard sell*!!
Introduction:
Since the dawn of time man has seeked out various ways in which to keep him/herself entertained, be it Adam and Eve's first game of nude charades, cavemen porn or like, something else old and equally entertaining...>forward> anyways, i like club nights, rad club nights with the music that gets me and keeps me musically hard! I like guitar based music amplified x100 to cook ones brain and i like this to be coupled with such things as: good, likeminded persons to share with, alcohol, space to shake it and females!
I've been to so many different 'nights of live music' that i thought to myself only a week ago now, 'hey, you know whatd be really cool ralph (me) ?? YOU (me) putting your own club night on with the music you deem fit for aural consumption - a night that youd want to not want to go to work for the next day!' Being somewhat of a night person and on hols without much money leftover - i stayed up planning the ultimate night of untamned rawk for my friends, stangers and anyone else whom might enjoy it...
Chicken or Egg (Venue or Bands) the eternal dilemma:
The place i've always thought of having my first night/club night/night club/live event/whatever etc etc was the logical starting point for getting this shebang underway: Camden's 'Iron Spaceship' to me and my fwends or THE PURPLE TURTLE to others. So i phone the venue from here in Cali, my current HQ for operations and shout down the phone (as there is a band on) about how might I go about booking their fine venue for either Friday or Sat (which i later learnt would prove to be an unfeesable option) and the nice lady screamed back an email for some dude called Allen to contact; which i did with great great haste - WED 5th OCT 2005 was the date in my mind and they would deliver or else.. *idol threat*. Turns out Allen is a recognised promoter in the london fetish scene and was nice enough to say 'YES' in a quick response to my hurried email.
The bands: easy - who do i like? who can i get a hold of without having to win the lottery? who is still alive?
Well you see, as some of you may know, i kind of think of myself as a bit of a promoter myself and have a vested interest in a few of london's 'hottest new talent'. I love this new band Mystery Meat who you may have heard me rave about (check the brief DiS profile i dun did for them) they consist of...aw, just read the profile and rate them mad points! Next, a band who i was blown away by when i first caught them live: Optimist Club. simple. (i also did them a lil artist profile too, which master JB kindly uploaded for me) ummm, do i add my new band? will we be good enough by then? sorry, will be be shit hot enough by then? > shit, bite the bullet, commit and pull through or else: The Trust Fund (whaddu think of the name? pretty rad huh) who only after a few hours of rehearsals with these new guys, which are totally cool and passed my 'safe test' with flying colours, i feel confident that the tunes we have already learnt (ive learnt their old ones and some compromise etc etc) we will be 100% and able to deliver a blinder by then. Next, im sooo excited, the headliners, the band that people will bone over and be willing to come out on a wednesday night for, a band that everyone loves and a band more importantly; I LOVE: get this people *drum roll etc etc* the (al)mighty KILL KENADA! open mouths...Yes you heard, i'll say it again, i've booked these bands for, as has already been mentioned by a fellow DiS comrade, 'a shit hot line up'! :
