hello. yesterday i went to a pet shop to pick up my rabbit cage. when i was there i had a look at the animals (even though it makes me sad).

I saw two rats in a cage, one a baby and one a podgy teenager. upon further inspection i noticed that only one of them had testicles (it doesn't take much inspection, rat testicles are HUGE, especially on babies).

I approached the pet shop owner and told him he was keeping two rats of the same sex together, and the female was very clearly pregnant. he shrugged slightly and asked if i wanted her. i said "no, but you can't sell her to an unsuspecting customer! you have to seperate them so she can have her babies!"

After some mild lecturing, he reluctantly got another cage to take her out back so she could have her babies. he opened the display case and went to pick the rat up by her tail. I stopped him and said "don't do that! you'll hurt her!" and picked her up myself properly, then gently put her in the cage.

after i'd bought my rabbit cage and as i was leaving, he made a snide remark about me being a 'rat expert' and how only 'goths and weirdos' keep rats anyway. i doubt i'm welcome back there.

To summarise: people who own pet shops don't like being told how to run their business. have you ever made someone very angry by making them realise they are shit at their job and trying to do it for them? this post is long, sorry.
