Selling a car question?

scutterbucket [Edit] [Delete] 19:42, 14 July '08

I recently sold a car to a local garage for £500. I wanted cash for it and the garage owner could only stump up for £100 of it at the time, so I didn't sign the forms over to him and told him to contact me when he had it. He never contacted me and i couldn't be bothered to chase it safe in the knowledge that he couldn't sell the thing until I signed the necessary paperwork so I would definitely eventually get the cash when i could be bothered to call him or he could be bothered to call me.

A friends just rung me to say he's seen someone (not the garage owner) driving it around town. I've phoned the garage and they've gone home for the day but i'm wondering how he could have legally sold it without me signing it over.

I'm also concerned that if whoevers driving it now gets a ticket it'll fall back on me.

Anyone know anything about this sort of thing?
