tonight I went to see Downfall, a German film about the final days of WW2 in Hitler's bunker for those that don't know, and its astonishing. Its 2 1/2 hours long, but not for one minute did I lose concentration or think of anything else. Its pretty horrendous and unrelenting, but its amazing to see Hitler portrayed as more than just mad and evil and as a person capable of compassion and kindness. Really, if you haven't seen this film you really must.
