TV comedy versus film comedy

doctornovocalcords [Edit] [Delete] 16:21, 6 March '08

The comedy film thread got me thinking that there are so so few really funny films that stand up to TV comedy in the same time period. If I think of films that really make me laugh I could probably count them on one hand whereas TV there are so many (at the moment I am strangely obsessed with Larry David going "pretty, pretty, pretty good".
Do you agree? If so, why is this?
Film being by nature conservative due to production time and costs?
TV having longer to build up characters and being able to be more subtle and low key?
