If your work didn't give you time off for something really important to you..

...and didn't tell you you couldn't have the day off until the day before you were due to take it (as they'd not looked at your request for leave for a week), what would you do?

This hasn't quite happened yet but it may do so tomorrow. I need Friday off to do some recording. I put in a request for this last week and mentioned it in passing in an email to my boss. My boss wasn't in Monday or today, but she was in yesterday but didn't sign off my form.

I found earlier that a colleague of mine has also requested the day off and, although the boss hasn't agreed to her leave either, as far as she's concerned she's taking Friday off and that's the end of it.

I've got this creeping suspicion that I'm gonna not get my day off here. If I tend don't turn up it's gonna be obvious why. I've always been clear to myself that I won't let my job get in the way of music, writing or anything else I actually care about.

So if worst comes to worst what should I do?
