Some notes on critically acclaimed artists/albums that youre meant to like by law.
OF course we all love the odd 'great' album and respected artist but surely we can't like them all, and most importantly it doesn't make you a musical Luddite or transitory pop fan if you don't surely?
I don't like the following and believe me I have tried, and do you know what? I still class myself as silly daft head over heels in love with music.
So......
Tom Waits - good advert to give up smoking
'Horses' - Patti Smith, didn't you learn anything from Jim Morrison about setting sixth form poetry to music?
Frank Zappa - why did someone with such contempt for modern music make a career out of it?
Dr John - the sort of blues you expect Jim Bergarac to like.
Slint - music for ugly people
Captain Beefheart - Is this a joke?
The Stooges - poshboys looking for attention
New York Dolls - Alice Cooper without the props, at a push.
Bob Dylan - why not just change your name to woody guthrie and have done with it?
Of course contextually some of the above can be appreciated but really, if I don't give a tinker's cuss for things that all media EXPECTS you to like if you really APPRECIATE music, then what is a man/woman meant to do?
