The ability of people, objects or situations to invoke feelings of amusement in other people thus making people laugh or feel happy is one of the most human things ever but why do people spend so much time analysing it and making it a science?

Do you think the people who come up with those formulas for the perfect joke are actually funny blokes, ones you'd sit next to in the pub and cause you to wet yourself a little bit when telling their famous anecdote about the speckled hen and its polish housemate?
