In September, I sent off some 1-2 year old payslips and a couple of P60s to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. In November I get these documents back with a terse note telling me something I can't even begin to understand. I assume it means "we don't really know why you've sent these to us, bye".

Flash forward to 2 minutes ago. I somehow fail to notice a letter for myself waiting on the mat. It is handed to me. It is from the Inland Revenue.

It's a cheque for a lot of money - approximately the equivilent of one month's rent.
