Intelligent design and Richard Dawkins

This is a bit disturbing. Under Tony Blair, religion in education does seem to be gaining some level of legitimacy which previously seemed to be on the wane. Faith schools anyone?
From my point of view, it does kind of seem reasonable that creation be at least discussed in schools as an alternative model to the big bang or what have you. It can't just be ignored or suppressed, but this isn't the same thing as allowing it to be taught in science lessons as a rival 'scientific theory' to evolution. Because it isn't one.
Is this being blown out of proportion or is Christian fundamentalism undergoing a resurgence in a similar way to Muslim fundamentalism?
