obscure films. in my memory. need to see again. not many clues. i need the true film buffs here.

1. film set in england, made in maybe early 90s? young school teacher travels up north (?) to teach in school for underpriviledged kids (?). maybe there's a focus on one of the kids, and lots of stuff about trains. shown on bbc1 late at night maybe 7 or 8 years ago.

2. set in america, probably made in the 80s, guy travels with carnival to escape from his home town, but its really depressing and crap. again shown late at night, but i have no other memories.

HELP ME.

also if any of the film buffs have a copy of Ode To Billy Joe, i really need to see it, its impossible to find.
