I was wondering about this. Because I like my first name (Sophie), but I hate it being shortened. I'll let my friends get away with it in speech, but it makes me cringe when people I don't really know do it, or when anyone writes it down.

And I really don't like my surname. No disrespect to my dad, but 'Scott' is a really dull name, and the alliteration makes me sound like a really crap superhero. I am willing to take the name of anyone I might marry, just because mine's so crap.
