Lunch with Prole: does it matter what 'format' music is listened to on?
As an example to get this mornings LwP going, I once had a crappy radio recording (one of many but this was my favourite at the time) of 'Arnold Layne' by The Pink Floyd that I heard on Radio 1 and was so in love with the song - even though the first 5 or so seconds were missing - that I was a bit disappointed to hear it in 'BIG non radio stereo' on CD later on. I mean it didn't mean it was shit when I heard it on CD but I was always more fascinated by the allure of a song than whether it was on 7 inch vinyl, itunes, a crappy recording on a Maxell cassette or a slightly rubbish CD Walkman.
My point being this: if I was to only listen to taped cassettes or just crap cds but knew and had everything that someone with access to all forms of 'media' had, would this make me still as informed and up to date - and does it matter what 'format' music is listened to on?
