My first mobile or 'mobey' as we probably never called them was a Seimens thingy which was the same shape and width as a portable telly remote control from 1989 - it's main feature was that the battery drained within about 4 hours and had no text facilities or games - and this was 1998 for crying, yes CRYING out loud (or just at the right volume during the night just incase you woke up your flamates, unless you wanted to make a point)

I soon got a Nokia 51 thingy with snake on however and then felt like I belonged - AT LAST i had something in common with someone, somewhere.

This was going to be lunch with prole but its too techie and not abstract enough.
