Where in your experience would you recommend people should (or definitely should not) try and get gigs?

My own favourite promoters include Moondog Loves You (who do a night called Hungamunga at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club once a month), Blang (who do a night at the 12 Bar Club once a month) and the Big Fibbers (who put on a gig in a small Turkish cafe called the Bodrum Cafe in Stoke Newington once a month). These are all nights where I feel people are really doing it for love.
