The Radio: a query
I have just been idly listening to 6 music, whereupon there is currently a feature involving listeners ringing in to relate a jocular tale about a time when they have been lied to or fooled in some way.
Now, my response to the invitation is this:
1. I have neither the energy nor the inclination to turn the rusted cogs of my mind and scroll back through the events of my life as recorded in my memory, in order to find an event that would suffice to be related on-air
2. I do not wish to reveal that I have, at some point in my life, been fooled by another human being with a smily-voiced goon who sits stabbing at brightly coloured buttons for a living.
Therefore, answer me this: why do radio programmes do this? Is it to make money from people phoning in, like Big Brother? Is it just to reassure themselves that there are actually people listening? I just don't know. Please, furnish me with your opinions!
