Taking Ridiculous Films Seriously
The Miami Vice thread make me remember I watched a little bit of Bad Boys on Channel 5 yesterday.
Leaving aside for the moment the epileptic directing style which ensured that any scenes not in slow motion would only last a maximum of 3 seconds each and the shoehorning in of bizarrely gay/racist/mentally ill one liners. I would like an explanation of why at the end these alleged cops charge in the front entrance of a warehouse where they know all the badguys are packing heat and have a hostage. I would like to know why they run while discharging their weapons, which is lethally dangerous and bad form considering they are senior police officers. I would like to know why bad guys who were unarmed were summarily executed. I’d like to know why they didn’t wait for adequate back-up. I’d really like to know why after they’d chased down the bad guy and shot him in the leg while he was trying to run away, he wasn’t immediately ordered to keep his hands away from his person and keep them there and why the arresting officers TURNED AWAY from him before he had been immobilised—which lead to a situation where he was able to go for a concealed weapon inside his jacket and had to be killed on the spot. And this was just from the five minutes I tuned in for.
What’s the meaning?
