Generic Seroquel (quetiapine) is a medication used in antipsychotic treatment of schizophrenia and also bipolar disorder (manic depression).

Generic Seroquel is used in the treatment of schizophrenia in both adults and children who are 13 years or older and is also commonly used to treat bipolar disorder (manic depression) in both adults and children 10 years or older. This medication is sometimes prescribed in combination with other antidepressant medications in order to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.
Make sure to take Generic Seroquel as prescribed by your doctor, and follow the directions on your prescription exactly. Do not take more or less at once or for a longer period of time than recommended to you.
Your dosing of Seroquel could change if your doctor believes it will benefit your condition.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water and with or without a meal. Do not chew, crush or break extended-release tablets; the pills should be swallowed whole. If the pill is chewed or crushed, too much of the drug can be released at once.
While taking Generic Seroquel, it may be recommended that you test your blood pressure, blood cell count, and general eye vision to make sure the medication isn’t affecting the listed issues above negatively. It is highly recommended you visit your doctor regularly.
It’s possible to experience high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) while taking Seroquel. If you have any hyperglycemic symptoms such as increased thirst, urination, unending hunger or body weakness, speak with your doctor. If you are diabetic, it is important to stay on top of your blood sugar levels regularly while on Seroquel.
Seek emergency medical help if experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or hives;
Speak to your doctor at once if you experience any new or worsening symptoms while on Generic Seroquel, including:
anxiety, mood or behavior changes, trouble sleeping, panic attacks or if you become impulsive, agitated, irritable, hostile, restless, aggressive, hyperactive (mentally or physically), even more depressed or have experience thoughts about hurting yourself or even suicide.
Stop using Generic Seroquel immediately and speak with your doctor if you experience any of the following serious side effects:
stiff muscles, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, high fever, confusion; lightheadedness to the point you could pass out; spastic, uncontrollable muscle movements, problems with speech, trouble swallowing; blurred vision, eye pain, seeing halos surrounding lights; heightened thirst and/or urination, uncontrollable hunger, weakness, fruity breath odor, nausea and vomiting; chills, fever, body aches and other flu symptoms; white patches or sores inside the mouth or on the lips.
Less serious side effects could include:
drowsiness, dizziness, extreme tiredness; dry mouth or sore throat; stomach pain or upset stomach, increased appetite, constipation, breast discharge or swelling; missed menstrual cycle or weight gain.
Generic Seroquel is not to be used for psychotic issues related to dementia. Generic Seroquel is to be used with caution in older adults with dementia related issues as it may cause heart failure, pneumonia or even sudden death.
If this is relevant to you, you may need to undergo testing and to be prescribed a specific dosing in order to safely take Generic Seroquel:
kidney or liver disease; high blood pressure, history of heart disease, heart attacks or rhythmic problems, strokes or low white blood cell (WBC) counts; thyroid disorder; seizures or epilepsy; high cholesterol or triglycerides; cataracts; trouble swallowing; or a history of diabetes.
There is a possibility that you may have thoughts about suicide when taking an antidepressant such as Generic Seroquel for the first time, especially those under the age of 24.
Speak to your doctor if your symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts worsen during the first few weeks of taking the medication or when the dosing for you changed, if relevant.
Your family or any caregivers should understand these risks and to be in tune with any negative changes in your mood or symptoms. You will need to visit your doctor regularly for at least the first 12 weeks of taking the medication.
FDA pregnancy category C. It is unknown whether Generic Seroquel will harm an unborn baby. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking Seroquel. You should not breast-feed your baby while you are taking this medication. It is unknown whether quetiapine is transferred into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not give Seroquel to a child without speaking to your doctor. Extended-release quetiapine (Seroquel XR)pills are for adult use only and shouldn’t be taken by anyone 18 years or younger.
Before taking Generic Seroquel, tell your doctor if you use any other medicines currently that make you drowsy (cold or allergy medications, narcotic pain medication, sedatives, muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, or medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety).
Tell your doctor if you use the following medications:
lorazepam (Ativan); cimetidine (Tagamet); steroids (prednisone and others); antibiotics such as rifabutin (Mycobutin), erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S, Ery-Tab), or Rimactane, Rifater); antifungal medications such as ketoconazole (Extina, Ketozole, Nizoral, Xolegal), fluconazole (Diflucan) or itraconazole (Sporanox); HIV medications such as ritonavir (Norvir), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), indinavir (Crixivan), saquinavir (Invirase) or lopinavir/ritonavir (Kaletra), and others; medications for depression or mental illness, such as haloperidol (Haldol), fluoxetine (Prozac), imipramine (Tofranil), thioridazine (Mellaril) or risperidone (Risperdal); medications to treat high blood pressure or any heart condition; medications to treat Parkinson's disease; or seizure medication including carbamazepine (Tegretol), divalproex (Depakote), phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton), phenytoin (Dilantin), or valproate (Depakene).
Do not start a new medication without first speaking to your doctor.
Take the missed dose of Generic Seroquel as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose all together. Do not take extra medication to make up for any missed doses.
Store the Generic Seroquel medication at 77°F (25°C). Short and temporary storage at temperatures between 59°F and 86°F (15°C and 30°C) is permissible. Store away from high heat, any moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Generic Seroquel out of reach of children pets.
