Synthroid (levothyroxine) is a medication prescribed to provide replacement for the hormone normally produced by thyroid glands, which can regulate energy levels and metabolism. Generic Synthroid is used for treatment of hypothyroidism by restoring the low levels of thyroid hormone in the body, as well as for treatment and prophylaxis of the enlarged thyroid gland caused by radiation, surgery, cancer or hormonal imbalance.
Generic Synthroid should be taken according to your doctor’s instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not change the dosage or period of use without prior medical consult. Your medical specialist may change the dose to achieve better results.

The tablet may dissolve very quickly in your mouth and cause choking. To avoid this, it is advised to take the medication with a full glass of water 30 minutes before eating, on an empty stomach. Usually, Generic Synthroid is taken in the morning.
If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.

Contact a medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: insomnia, headache, nervousness or irritability, hot flashes, perspiration, high body temperature, fluttering sensation in your chest, heavy heartbeat, menstrual irregularities, and changes in the appetite or weight.

Interaction of Generic Synthroid with other medications can render it less effective. For this reason, avoid taking the following medications 4 hours before or after taking Generic Synthroid: calcium carbonate (Caltrate, Citracal, Oystercal, etc.); ferrous sulfate iron supplements; sucralfate (Carafate); sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate, Kionex, etc.); aluminum or magnesium antacids (e.g. Acid Gone, Aldroxicon, Alternagel, Di-Gel, Gaviscon, Gelusil, Genaton, Maalox, Maldroxal, Milk of Magnesia, Mintox, Mylagen, Mylanta, Pepcid Complete, Rolaids, Rulox); or medications to lower cholesterol levels such as cholestyramine (Questran) and colestipol (Colestid).
If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you have missed.
Generic Synthroid should be stored at room temperature between 59°F and 86°F (15°C and 30°C), away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children and pets.
