Idle musicians wanted for sloppy melodic indie rock band
I don't intend to come across as elitist, but I'm certainly not interested in people who make twee folk music with their sweater-wearing girlfriends for adverts. I appreciate the importance of Oasis and suede Adidas Sambas but I certainly don't want to play that sort of "indie" for people who still comb the back pages of Mojo for From The Jam dates, nor want to go anywhere near lad-rock.
I am a 20-something multi-instrumentalist insofar as I can play shambolic rhythm guitar and sing lead. I can also play intermediate keyboards. My main instrument is the drums, but I don't want to play them in a new band.
I have extensive commitments with my main band. Like a lot of drummers I want to play guitar and sing more regularly and to do this I also want to start a fairly non-committal other band. Not a "project". A band where we put combo amplifiers on beer crates, play bottom of the bill and get drunk on real ale. Something exciting, urgent, joyous and unhinged to watch, yet melodic, playing at the most of our abilities all of the time.
I have some people interested in doing this who are also in other bands already. I don't have a set line-up in mind, but they really ought to be better than me.
I have the bones of lots of songs knocking about, although I'm a better collaborator than I am a singer-songwriter. I think you should probably listen to The Replacements, Ryan Adams, REM, The Hold Steady, early Bruce Springsteen, Husker Du, Big Star, The Posies, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Teenage Fanclub, The Waterboys. Sort of melodic rock with an alt, energetic spirit.
Send me a message and I'll see whether this is worth doing.
