something bleak, aggressive, weird, metal - Manchester...
We are after a drummer and vocalist for something bleak, aggressive, noisy and weird and therefore as brutal as possible.
I play in a few other non-metal bands but i've been wanting to get something heavy going for a long time. A friend and I who are both in other more shoegazey and dream pop bands have discussed what we want in metal at lengths and are looking for that drummer and vocalist on the same sort of wavelenth.
I see good metal as deranged, brutal and produced to be its own self contained evil thing. LPs like Converge - Jane Doe sort of embodies that, yeah its technical but not really virtuoso, its so brutal in its own way. Wolves in the Throne room have their thing going on, the distance they create with atmostphere is awesome. The first Mastodon record was pretty ace, just touching on prog and all those things they later explored but staying thrasy and brutal - awesome. Bands like Liars explore drum rhythms at length on Drums not Dead, heavy toms we into that. Trencher, they hit on some cool shit with the casio keyboards, i like that they went there. Will Haven - Carpe Diem, the dissonance is awesome. Absu put out a self titled record in 2009 which is one of my favourite metal records ever, relentless, textured, never lets up where the rhythms are never obvious or bore.
Basically, a deep love for music and aggressive music is essential.
We are really interested in bringing new and unusual things into the metalsphere as we are really into music, not metalheads but are deep on aggressive, bleak and dark music. We don't want to be afraid to try shit out and make something really nasty and unique.
Some of my favourite records of all time include bands like Slint, Sonic Youth, Elliott Smith, Xiu Xiu, Deftones, Radiohead, Ariel Pink, early Wu, The Cure, Converge, Slayer, Pentangle, Nirvana. My favourite album last year was Public Strain by Women and the last amazing metal/hardcore record i got into was Trap Them's Darker Handcraft - fucking ace.
Anyway if your interested in working at creating something different get in touch and chat about what your into, what you want to do with metal, what you love about it, what you hate etc...
