London - bass player wanted for progressive rock (the good kind) band
Due to an unfortunate parting of ways, we're currently looking for a bass player to complete a keys / guitar / drums line-up.
We've been together over two years and have almost completed our second album, which we plan to distribute - under the auspices of a great little indie label - throughout the EU on iTunes/Spotify.
Broadly speaking, our aim is to make ambitious, distinctive music and perform it to a high standard. Sometimes that results in a fair amount of technical complexity (you'll need to be comfortable with odd time signatures and harmonic progressions); nonetheless, we always try to avoid straying into dreaded ‘muso’-land.
Our musical influences span a fairly wide range. My personal guiding lights include: Melvins, Van der Graaf Generator, Roxy Music, Neurosis, Funkadelic, Soilent Green, Les Rita Mitsouko, Mark Lanegan, Einsteurzende Neubauten, Fugazi, Al Green, Captain Beefheart – basically anything with a singular ‘voice’ and (more often than not) compelling rhythms.
Band commitments remain fairly light at present - for financial reasons as much as anything else, we rehearse once a week (although there’s plenty of scope for additional work to be done outside the rehearsal room). That said, we’re in this for the long-haul, and have every intention of making the band a full-time commitment, to which end we would expect you to make yourself as available as feasibly possible for recording and gigs – the more the better.
We’re not looking for any particular ‘type’ of bass player, originality and a sound work ethic being our operative selection criteria. Please email toarmsetc@hotmail.co.uk if you’d like to know more.
