Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences seek bassist...
Hiya
We're an outsider pop/post-punk band who hopefully don't sound too much like anyone else although there's probably some similarities to Elvis Costello, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Hefner, the Fall and some other people. In the last year we're released an album on a small label that's been generally well-received critically, done a radio session for Huw Stephens, played a bit on Radio 1 and Radio 6, supported Blood Red Shoes, done Swn and Latitude and various gigs mostly around London and seem to have a decent reputation as an entertaining live band who people enjoy watching.
In 2009 we're doing some more gigs around London, doing a few more gigs out of London, hoping to do a few more festivals and recording another album.
Anyway we're planing for our current bassist to start doing some interesting things with synths and percussion and samplers and suchlike and, as such, have a vacancy for a new bassist.
Essentially we want someone who can play the bass well (not in a Level 42 or Flea sense but more in a "does what works best to support the song and is good at underpinning things and holding them together with possibly the odd flourish and panache thrown in" sense), is likable, adaptable, easy to get on with, happy to 'go with the flow' and is versatile/willing to try out ideas and push and experiment with what we're trying to do.
It's not a hugely dictatorial band and, in the main, there'll be a lot of flexibility to come up with your own parts (apart from a view occasions where we already have something we really like)
