Offbeat lyricist/songwriter wants to form band...
Hi,
my name's Paul and I'm told I'm a very interesting lyricist, strong songwriter, entertaining stage presence and unusual (if not technically skilled) guitarist and singer.
I've been playing as an acoustic singer-songwriter for a while but I'm keen to fill out my sound and form a band, if I can find the right people. To be honest I've no idea what exactly I'm looking for but I'm hoping I'll know when I've found it, if you see what I mean. I'm keen to hear from other musicians, singers or songwriters in the London area and see if I come across people who I like and work well with.
To give some idea of what I've got in my mind I'm keen on catchy tunes, originality, intelligence, a sense of humour, fun, optimism and ludicrous over-ambition whilst I tend to dislike self-indulgence, over-earnestness, narrow-mindedness, blandness and music that's technically good but dull music. I definitely prize creativity and imagination over technical ability. Also I'm not necessarily restricting myself to 'live' instruments and am equally happy to hear from people into synths/sequencers etc.

In terms of influences, I'm keen not to sound too much like anyone else and don't care if you listen to different stuff to me. For what it's worth I like Belle & Sebastian, Hefner, Nick Cave, The Coral, Elliot Smith, BSP, Maximo Park, Outkast, REM, Billy Bragg, Suede, New Order, the Divine Comedy, the Flaming Lips and loads of other stuff too.
Sorry if this all sounds a bit vague but I want to leave things as open as possible for now. Once I've got a couple of people on board I'll probably have a firmer vision in mind.
