apple music and how much prepared to spend?
ok what does everyone think of the release of apples music downloading service? and what are the exact rules and regulations of using it.
also how much are you prepared to spend on music a year?
personally im prepared to buy on average and album a month. so approx £120 on music a year. i dont think id be prepared to spend more than that. but yet there is probably on average 3 or 4 albums i would like to buy a month.
so this is a theory (purely theoritcal i dont actually do this) im thinking.
ok assume i download those 3 to 4 albums a month for a year and i dont buy any albums. the record industry thinks it has lost 4*£10 *12 (months) £480 in me not buying any music, when in fact it has only lost £120. so for instance if downloads werent available i would only spend £120 on albums a year and not hear any other of the albums i would like to.
ok and say for instance im extremly poor or tight with money. im prepared to buy maximum 2 albums a year, so the record industry gets £20 off me. yet with the availability of downloads (for free) im prepared to download maybe 10 albums a year. so the record industry thinks it has lost (10*£10) £100 off me, but in fact im only prepared to spend £20 if downloads weren't available for free.
obviously im not in the record industry but it would be interesting to see the figures they used and sums to work out the loss to the industry that happens through downloading.
personally i think as long as there is a free alternative (which there is) and you dont get prosecuted then the pay services arent going to work.
im completely not against paying for downloads but personally i know alot of people (including myself (although i dont dowload that much and rarely whole albums as im on 56k),in fact most students) who would not buy as much music as they do download for free. some people probably wouldnt buy any music at all and they simply wouldnt hear it if they couldnt download. can anyone on here honestly say that they would buy as much music as they download? or would they even buy the music they download? for instance you might download Mcfly or some novelty songs. but you would absolutely never buy it.
im trying to think of another non-stupid example in another industry, whereby if something is free you consume alot more than if you had to pay for it. but i cant.
i dunno pick flaws in my argument/theory im sure there is loads...
