What is a Careerist?

brusma [Edit] [Delete] 10:30, 6 March '04
Yeah, what exactly is a careerist? Is it someone who makes music solely to get rich?
Or is it someone someone who makes music solely to be successful?
You see, I'm not sure. Every musician has an audience in mind, everyone wants to be listened to. You're a bit...well, odd if you don't. If you want to make music to be successful so more people can listen to your music and you can make more of ths music you want to make, surely that's okay? Surely freedom of expression is important to musicians and to music fans.
I mean, I can't imagine any career I'd rather have personally than be in a band or something. You read all these interviews with Elbow or whoever saying being in a band's the best thing ever and they want to do it for the rest of their lives. Is that careerist? Can we criticise anyone for that, honestly? I think they should be f*cking applauded.
There.
