PJ's for my niece, earrings for somebody else; shirts, books, and gift certificates. Etcetra, etcetra. All well and good. But what about me? I gotta go buy my own X-mas present...if I'm gonna like it!

The Kills - No Wow. Had never heard them before two hours ago. It's a sort of romantic soundtrack for people who sleep in the day and play at night. I like it. 8/10

Iggy Pop - New Values. Half of this record is great and the other half sucks... which is indicative of the Ig's output in the late 70s. 7/10

Elbow - Leaders of the Free World. Sort of just lays there, neither offensive nor a thrill to play. 6/10

Oasis - Def Maybe. Another replacement disc. I ask you, since the Gallaghers sound is same-as-it-ever-was why is this record near-great and more recent efforts near-crap? Proof there's a fine line between success and failure.

Coldplay - The Blue ep. Early stuff that only hints at where they'd be today.

Mock Orange - ? (I forget). I saw these guys in an MTV2 battle of the bands and they were really quite good. It's a Pavement/Pixies/Modest Mouse that misses that one final ingredient which separates the men and little boys in short pants. 7/10
