I have gradually come to the conclusion that all bands that are purely instrumental suck. I’m particularly thinking of the likes of Mogwai, Billy Mahonie, Godspeed You Black Emperor and more recently, Audrey.

I know that this is a blind spot for me, but I need some kind of vocal. I don’t mind bands that have the odd instrumental track, but those with no vocalist at all just come across as the worst sort of self indulgent muso twaddle. I’ve seen all of the above live at different times and they’ve always sent me straight to the bar.

Is it just me? Where am I going wrong? Who are the great instrumental band?
