Dirty Three
I saw Devendra Banhart at the Astoria last night, who was... ok. Some of it was lovely, but some songs were worryingly polished and veered almost into Jack Johnson territory. Some great beards though!
But the real highlight of the evening for me was recognising the man from the support band as soon as he came on stage, then realising that it was Dirty Three, side-project of the violinist from the Bad Seeds (Warren, I think? Might be wrong though). Gosh, they were ace. They managed to make such an outstanding noise for just violin, guitar and drums. Really really exciting, aggressive post-rock, it was just brilliant. His between song descriptions were also ace, in-depth crazy ramblings about drugs and death and caves and periscopes. I am quite in love.
So, has anyone heard any on record? Is it as good? What should I buy?
