For most bands it'd be difficult for me to say one way or the other which is more important, the words or the music. Occasionally, I'll say to myself here's a snifly nosed midwestern kid whose puppy just doesn't understand him and he's written a poem about it on his Biology folder. Other times I'll think here's a bunch of talented musicians who start spitting out lines willy-nilly that rhyme with "we are, we are, we are facing" (the end of all the medicine we're taking) - before their studio time is up.
