I've been home recording on various types of thing for quite a while and I'm thinking about going into a proper studio to get things sounding a bit better. At the moment I use a Boss digital 8-track and I'm pretty happy with it but I need to get things a bit better in the final mix and could do with more tracks to record on. So I'm debating whether or not to spend the money I would spend on studio time on a laptop and some decent recording software.

Does anyone know of a good website/magazine/book that I could look at to help me decide what to go for?
