Hi-Fi Systems - Advice/gear (beginners level)
Hi,
I was given a very crap USB turntable that my parents had bought with the aim of digitising their vinyl collection at Christmas. As a 27 year old who's got into music post 2000 and has grown up in the digital age when it comes to collecting and buying music, I'd never previously thought about getting into vinyl. But I've recently discovered the pure nerdish delight of crate digging and having a physical object which comes into life through its interaction with the stylus... the tactility of it all.
Anyway I'd like to get myself a relatively cheap, but reliable and decent sounding hi-fi system to play my vinyl on. I am not an audiophile (whether that's through years of listening to compressed MP3's at 192kbps, I don't know). I will mostly be playing music in my 12ft x 10ft bedroom or maybe in my living room at parties.
I would like to spend no more than about £400 in total (absolute max, ideally less). What do I need? The USB turntable is pretty basic... but will things be OK as long as I have a decent pre-amp and amp? Do I need a pre-amp? I probably need some new speakers right... I have some Logitech X-230's that I currently plug into the side of my laptop which I bought for £40 a long, long time ago.
What stores/websites do people recommend? If anyone who put together a relatively cheap set-up can let me know what they bought and where they went to get that, that would be most appreciated.
