As a genre it had such bad connotations when I was growing up (MCR, Fall Out Boy) that my quick-to-judge teenage self never investigated further...though I was always confused why a band as good as Brand New could be associated with "emo". Years down the line I'm reappraising my youth, reconnecting with Brand New and discovering bands like The World is a Beautiful Place... through DiS. What did I miss out earlier, as now I'm ready to discover, with that excited goosebump you get when diving into a new genre you are ready to appreciate.
