Important albums and the tropical diseases they most closely resemble
This thread is long overdue. I'll get things started.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers's Californiacation // eBola
Blood Sugar Sex Magick was the greatest album of all time, even Paul McCartney admitted that The Beatles never came close to its majesty. Yet despite its power, its sales were relatively modest outside of south Eastern Guinea in the 1970s. When John Fruitscante left the band to join The Mars Volta, Antony Keidis must have thought it was all over, resigned to recruiting shithead nobody Dave Navarro to replace him on guitar rendering them a joke, a laughing stock, a bunch of pricks. No-one took them seriously anymore and everyone thought they would probably just split up and hoped they would. Then along came Californiacation. Blammo, out of nowhere and suddenly they're the biggest thing since sliced bread and the entire world is sitting up and taking notice. You can't go anywhere without hearing about them or fearing them, and the impact of hearing classic tunes like Scar Tissue or Don't Stop is a 50% chance of death and they're trialling a vaccine in Oxford for it.
Hanson's Middle Of Nowhere // Leprosy
Hansen's is a chronic infection caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. Much like Hanson's debut album Middle Of Nowhere, leprosy does not cause body parts to fall off, although they can become numb or diseased as a result of secondary infections. Many dismiss Hanson as a joke, a one-hit-wonder that should never have been, with preconceptions that don't realise the true greatness that most people were too shallow to realise. Sure they were brothers and they were young, but rather than unearth gems like I Will Come to You and Where's the Love, most just wanted to laugh at their long hair and put them in isolated colonies where they would spend the rest of their lives neglected and would never be looked at as normal members of society again.
