This Foo Fighters/Cornwall/crowdsourced gig/'good for the music scene?' debate thing
Is quite interesting (even though I don't live in Kernow anymore).
Basically, a couple of promoters set up this crowdfunder: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/foofighters/
...it smashed the target.
Laura Snapes raised some interesting points 'ere: http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/pledging-200000-to-get-foo-fighters-to-play-cornwall-give-it-to-the-local-scene-instead
Lee Trewhela countered her: http://www.westbriton.co.uk/NME-s-snubbing-Foo-Fighters-Crowdfunder-bid/story-23064168-detail/story.html

It made me think a bunch of things. The key 'thing' being, a Foo Fighters uber-concert is about as relevant to l'il indie gigs/grassroots promotin'/DIY as a supermarket opening. I'm also skeptical about any kind of funding drive to help a provincial 'scene'.
