The Damned
maybe they should have called it a day studio wise after their 5th album, but that would be to deny them of their biggest hits. Personally a band I've always loved. Proper cartoon Punk and they still put on a good live show even today.
Their debut 'Damned Damned Damned' (1977) is practically faultless from the sleeve to every urgent note on that album. Music For Pleasure (1977) always springs to my mind when I hear or read the expression "difficult 2nd album" - amazed it never dented the Top 200 albums, brave move to have Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) produce it although you'd hardly know he was at the helm. Fantastic jazz punk sprawling ending and again jam-packed full of classics. Machine Gun Etiquette (1979) is almost as essential as their debut despite some major band shuffles - a total classic. The Black Album (1980) saw them stretch and it's an adventurous album again with great artwork and some fine, fine songs. Love The Beatles mocking title too. Strawberries (1982) is a Psychedelic Pop Punk classic which is far better than it gets any real credit for.
