DiStape Club September 2014 edition
Anyone up for this? I'm thinking the theme could be 'Journeys' or something because I finally booked my trip to Mexico (wistfully looks out of the window toward the New World).
Also, static and bornin69, I finally got around to listening to the mixes you sent me (sorry it took so long (esp. static)).
static's sport mix:
I loved the opener. Max Richter is a talented man indeed. The second track was killer too, reminded me very heavily of 'Table Tennis' off Flying Lotus' Cosmogramma (another ping pong sample). Thought Yellow Ostrich said Yellow Swans on the tracklist so was surprised when it was a nice slice of indie-rock instead of terrifying noise or whatever. That one reminded me a lot of a band named Pomegranates who you might possibly like (their first album is terrific, I don't know about the rest). Those were the highlights for me in what was generally a wonderful mix, although the CD was genuinely broken post-track 12 so maybe it got really shit then, who knows?
bornin69's crime and punishment mix:
Bonus points for the inclusion of that Raskalnikov lyric in track one. Never listened to Magazine before and they're ace. I'm not really a reggae fan at all so unfortunately didn't get on with those tracks so much but really enjoyed the Bobby Womack and Nina Simone cuts, as well as Sam Cooke and another I forget now. Much bigger fan of the latter half of the CD. Kudos for how well it all segued together - sometimes I didn't even notice the tracks shifting into one another. Will definitely be investigating a few of these artists further so thanks a lot!
