this is a super anorak thing for me to post but does anybody else thing the drums sound really compressed and flaky?

Like, every crash sounds like its a 64kbps mp3 or some shit, just falling apart. It's probably produced that way intentionally right? Really annoys me. I like the album a lot.

Am I being thick? Is this part of the way albums are recorded/produced? Most cheaply made punk/indie/old lo-fi records like early Sebadoh don't sound as flaky as that.
